Adventures

Oh, Belleville.

I camped out in the country

For two straight days

Wandered back to civilization

For a spell today.

Within Belleville proper

Within 10 minutes, I saw:

A rooster crossing the dirt road

(He got to the other side)

A cross-dresser driving a Lincoln

A small man hiding behind a dumpster,

Behind a nail salon.

I think the adventures should continue, tonight.

And I’ll take the notebook, the camera.

A Belleville Christmas

(Beautiful Town Holiday)

As the snows touch down

On Horizon Park

And the lake stands still

In the icy dark

We sing warm songs

Of good hope and cheer

Wishing all the town

That we love so dear

Happy Christmas, all,

And a great new year

Come along, join with us

Sing our song, won’t be long

‘Til we meet, once again

For the downtown glow

Of a Belleville Christmas.

A parade winds down

Near the Main Street piers

Will there be palm trees,

Or Some boats this year?

Then we all gather ’round

For cold fireworks bright

And we all feel so blessed

To be here, this night

Come along, join with us

Sing our song, won’t be long

‘Til we meet, once again

For the downtown glow

Of a Belleville Christmas.

Starry Lullaby

I wonder why stars that shine

Fade to blue from the black

Of the high night sky

They keep our watch, over years

Like a keepsake box

Of our hopes, trials and tears

Yet there they are, sure as day

When night falls once more

To float our cares far away

Tra-la-la

Too-ra-loo

Sing along to the sounds

Of a starry lullaby

Time it flies, sure as day

And the nights come with stars

That shine their way

To our beds, tuck us in

Keep us tight

Through the long, dark hours

Of the wint’ry night.
